Project: Maintenance building TUI Travel Belgium

Client: Van Laere Zwijndrecht Belgium

Customer: TUI travel Belgium

Scope of work:

At the airport of Zaventem, Frijns has installed a new TUI Travel Belgium building called “Jetairport” on behalf of construction company Van Laere from Belgium. This new state-of-the-art maintenance building includes a warehouse with a ground surface of 10,000 m? and a total of 11,500 m2 of office space. In order to allow several aircraft types to enter simultaneously, including the Boeing 747 Dreamliner, a maximum span was imposed above the gates.

The hangar has a width of 117 m and a depth of 55 m with a clear height of 20 m under the rafters. The steel roof structure rests on only 5 concrete columns and has a free span of no less than 112 m at the front. A striking detail is that the whole roof, after being prefabricated at ground level with a total weight of 3,000 tons, has been ‘lifted’ to a height of 20 m by means of hydraulic beach jackets and this in a period of a few hours.

Tonnage: 750 tonnes
